The Physically Active Youth programme (P.A.Y), a registered non-governmental organization, is a community based after-school project that focuses on the healthy development of young people in low income communities in the Centre of Windhoek (Katutura). Using a holistic approach, the programme addresses the physical health, academic status, personal development, and community involvement of Namibia’s youth, with a commitment to improving and empowering the future of the county through realizing goals set in NDP 4 and 5. By meeting the development needs of young adolescents, the programme contributes a great deal towards positively shaping their lives. In addition to personal growth, PAY makes the Namibian communities the key beneficiaries through its work. The programme provides a safe and constructive platform for a supervised after-school environment for youth, helping improve academic outcomes, decrease juvenile crimes, teenage sexual activity and substance abuse. PAY key program components are feeding, education, sport and lifeskills.
