Walvis GasPort is an exciting development aiming to create a Natural Gas industry hub in Walvis Bay, Namibia The southern African region has been largely dependent on coal as a primary energy source, but with the focus on cleaner energy, and on diversifying energy sources to ensure sustainability, the region’s power sector development plans strongly support the development of renewable energy sources along with gas-to-power technology. With increasing pressure on national fiscus, governments have turned to Independent Power Producers (IPP) to generate and supply power to meet the needs of increasing demand fuelled by development and growth. The stage is set for a strong player to emerge and kick-start a Natural Gas supply network in the SADC region. Walvis GasPort’s innovative design, based on a Floating Storage Unit, a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) carrier, enabled by a state-of-the-art on-shore regasification, will deliver cost-effective, clean energy and fuel to state, industry, and public clients.
